If it gets Shift Gear alongside those boosts, it won't be just a monster. It will be /the/ pokémon defining the metagame. Hell, let's not forget that it gets stuff like SR, Dual Screens, Explosion, and a bunch of colorful moves if you wanna specialize it to beat its main counters/checks. If it ends up getting SG (unlikely, but you never know), you could probably run it together with some other potential megas that also work fine as regular mons (Gyra, Ttar, Garchomp) to play mindgames with people.
I'm really happy that Metagross is getting a buff, I can't wait to try it out.
