It puts an interesting spin on battling. You and your opponent can see each others Pokemon with some hidden ones in reserve, kind of like Washizu Mahjong from Akagi. There's no turn delay for switching, Pokemon can fire their attacks immediately. That's bringing in lots of prediction into the battle. It's too bad it didn't catch on that much, but it's way better than the mess that was Triple Battles.
