I was thinking his dialogue would be somewhere along the lines of "I left yesterday on my journey. By default I'm a pro and you're a fresh trainer so let me give you a lesson in battling." or some crap like that. If you lose, he'll just heal your Pokemon and give you a warning to watch for trainers crossing your path but if he wins, he'll just accept that you're ready and you can be on your way.
