Slowbro is already supposed to take hits better from Shellder's poisons but the mega evolution makes it so that the Shellder literally becomes armor. The main boost in stats go to defense, where Mega Slowbro has a huge defense of 180, the same as Cloyster. Also Slowbro loses that dopey smile because it's so slow that it's only just noticing that something is on its tail.
