Anyway, the character I want to make is a former racing driver who's heavily based on Michael Schumacher - specifically, during his career in the 90's, and the reason he decided to have a go at Pokemon training is inspired by the incident during the final race in 1997, where he attempted to simply take out his rival, failed and got disqualified for that. Except in my char's case, he'd be disqualified for the whole next year as well, so he doesn't want to simply waste that time doing nothing.
Those people who recognize him tend to be split: some pretty much worship him, others perceive him as an arrogant scumbag who'd do absolutely anything to win at something. In truth, he's actually quite chill and affable in person, but he is indeed very driven and utterly obsessed with the idea of victory, so that leads him to: a) push both his team and himself to their limit (he trains along with them); b) do extensive research on his rivals and Gym Leaders - before tackling a Gym for a badge, he'd watch battles and make notes on the potential weaknesses; c) use underhanded tactics in the battle itself - though it's a bit hard for me to imagine what exactly can be done during this time, and he isn't that dirty to sabotage his opponents beforehand.
