That's only an issue because LGPE was a lazy copypaste of a simplistic Game Boy map, not because the concept of OW encounters is bad.
If it was done on an actual Switch game with a large organic map, it would be great.

Unless you have a two digit IQ, you know very well it's because LGPE was a 3D port of a minuscule map designed 20 years ago for the fucking GB rather than because the conceot of OW encounters is inherently bad.
None of the people who argued in favor of OW encounters said they didn't want it to be as lazily done as in LGPE.

Routes seemed small in LGPE because they WERE INDEED SMALL.
It was a fucking Game Boy map designed 20 years ago for a weak ass hardware and lazily copypasted in bad 3D on Switch.
With an actual map worthy of a Switch game, OW encounter would work fine.

Unless you were a tard, you knew that the simplified maps in games were meant to be expanded with your imagaination.

If by realism you mean something like RDR2, obviously Pokemon doesn't need it.
But graphics like DQ11 or Zelda Skyward Sword would work perfectly fine for a Pokemon game.
