I don't think GameFreak ever precisely lied that the Pokemon models themselves were entirely brand new nor higher quality, they were speaking generally about the Switch. Check the interviews. They just suck ass, among other things, at importing the Pokemon assets that were literally future-proofed for this exact purpose and are doing that portion "from scratch". The game "journalists" (Polygon) just misconstrued it as them doing all this unfeasibly hard work and the brainlet apologists latched onto it as truth. Now GameFreak, journalists, and the fans are all suffering. Poetry.
