Midnight Zone, and some of the changed fields (Short Circuit, Rocky) are fucking retarded, especially in the context of their designated Gym leader battles.
Midnight Zone forcing you to either play in a field that makes Underwater look like a good field or Underwater itself is painful, and I didn't have a terribly dogshit matchup like Wagie did.
Short Circuit is almost worse, since it's the earliest of this autism and I didn't have too many options to fend off the retardedly field buffed Chandelure, Gengar, and Mimikyu.
At least by Rocky Field, you almost certainly have more than enough options, no matter what type restrictions you're running, to just remove it.
On that note, the mid-battle dialogue and effects, while neat conceptually, are used WAY too often, and are incredibly retarded. Giving one meteornigger miniboss in Tanzan the ability to spontaneously change the field effect would've been pretty neat, but instead, well over half of the meteorniggers in that section change the field change the field effect on top of basically all of them being strong enough to be considered minibosses.
This only gets worse the further you go. The second half of the game feels like you fight almost nothing but retardedly strong Meteorniggers and other bosses. In base reborn, this of course isn't a problem, because they're still generally shitters, but here? Lmao.
The trainer/battle design is bad at best and actively malicious at worst. The latter can clearly be seen in the shitty 12v12 battles with dogshit partners, say, Victoria underneath the grand Stairway, Cain at Yureyu, etc.. It gets slightly better towards the end of the game, but Labradorra Amaria and Victory hell Charlotte seem like unintended outliers compared to the rest of the shitter partners.
