There's 2 whole genres specific to lesbians (yuri) and gays (yaoi) and they even hold events where artists exclusively sell gay or lesbian doujins and prints, and they don't really get a shitfit of people crying to shut down the events because "society is collapsing!" or some shit. And something about japanese culture and homosexuality within the samurai but I don't know too much about that specific topic so I can't talk much about it.
