Union cave had an underground den that connected to ruins of alph and an underground lapras den with items and trainers with interesting teams. Slowpoke well had a basement with wild slowbro and an npc that gives you a kings rock. Dark cave had areas only open up after getting surf/rock smash and a new area to explore from the blackthorn entrance connecting to route 46(?) With trainers and secret berry trees. Mt. Mortar had areas only accessible after getting waterfall with items including the elusive dragon scale and the karate king. I loved how each cave was layered with exploration. Whenever I beat morty I get surf and strength and do another loop around johto exploring all these areas. Its cool that you do this right after releasing the legendary beasts so theres a chance you'll see them on this revisit. Love johto.
Also shout out to the three sisters who hang out in the route below goldenrod with high levelled water mons. That starmie with bubblebeam/recover can wreck your shit if youre not prepared and underlevelled. (Pic is two of the trainers from union cave basement. That kanga can be terrifying right after morty when your team is most likely in their early 20s at best and not fully evolved.)
