Others reasons are because of his choice of clothes, and the colors red, yellow and white that go well together. I personally think Ethan's appearance makes you tell he's a trainer that's REALLY in the mood of catching Pokémon, being competent and adventuring around while being just a youngster.
He looks great. Not cool and radical if you believe it, but great, he really does. That's it.
