Luxray has rounded ears and a sort of short, rounded mane. It also has a long tail with a sort of spark-shape on the end. Lynxes have very triangular ears that are also tufted. While lynxes do have sort of manes, the mane of a lynx is more beard-like. They also have very short, stubby tails. Lions depicted in stuff meant for Japanese kids frequently look like this. Short rounded mane and round ears. You might be able to argue that the spark on the end of the line's tail also resembles the tuft on a lion's tail.
Shinx might be a sort of a lion cub with lynx mixed in based on its JP name as well (Kolink or Kolynk), but Luxray sure as hell ain't.
