Gen 2 was an expansion of the franchise, it was the game that GAME FREAK poured their hearts into. And they knew people would start to want Johto remakes (for the 2nd time). But GAME FREAK knows they simply can't make a game with the pure passion and love that went into Gen 2, without sacrificing time and money, just like how the development of Gen 2 was back in the day! A lot of sacrifices were made back then to make Gen 2 as high quality as possible. We know Ishihara wants to turn the Pokémon franchise into a soulless money making machine, and in a sense has already succeeded, but if people started demanding Johto remakes, which they saw was starting to happen, GAME FREAK would have to change their mindset and development cycle completely, because Johto is a huge game that is chock full of content, which would mean losing profit and wasting time. That is the reason why Nintendo and TPCi started the Johto slander campaign. The sad part is, it's working, and is probably irreversible. The community has done a complete 180 on Johto, or rather, been brainwashed into doing so.
Why put effort into the games, when you could rehash the Kanto (and Gens 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8) formula over and over again, with minimal effort, and high profit? (3/3)
