They obviously show no interest in working extra hard to make history with a solid Pokemon title. Even though games like BW2 and HGSS were great, even those games lacked heavily in some aspects.
It's obviously about the money at the end of the day.
They're not that stupid, honestly. Masuda is well aware (especially recently) about what players want, but his bigger priority is accomplishing whatever they feel would best characterize their new game (in an exclusive manner), and then market the game off of that one stupid thing.
In a nutshell, GF thinks quantity > quality
