>>38634305I can't believe how hard they fucked up some of the most iconic designs. I also can't believe some people think that Squirtle looks cute, seeing as it's one of the ugliest in the movie. Squirtle, Eevee, Gengar and FUCKING MEWTWO look so shitty. If you're gonna make Mewtwo so prominent onscreen, at least make sure it doesn't look so awful.
It's kinda ironic because i always assumed the grittier, more creature-esque Gen 1 designs would lend themselves wonderfully to a live action adaptation while the newer, more cartoony designs would look more uncanny. Boy was i wrong. The only great gen 1 Pokemon were Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Arcanine, Mr. Mime and maybe Cubone, which is pathetic seeing as how there were apparently nearly 30 Gen 1 pokemon in hte film. Most of the newer gen Pokemon looked way better. Pangoro, Braviary, Joltik, Morelull, Snubbull, Golurk among others looked fantastic, but got nearly no screentime compared to their hideous brethren. Greninja also seemed to be one of the only furless pokemon that looked good, but admittedly we only catch quick glimpses of them. I'm guessing he'd also look bad on closer inspection. Torterra looked great, but pretty much didn't even appear. The whole thing was disappointing with just a few impressive and nice moments, so i guess it wasn't a total waste.
