Hell, even Kangaskhan, the Pokemon explicitly themed after a kangaroo, doesn't actually look that much like a kangaroo, which makes it more interesting than if it were a nu-gen Pokemon where it would inevitably just be a cartoon kangaroo just to fill the "we have to make a pokemon based on animal we haven't done before" quota that gen 4+ is obsessed with.
