She was never one of the girly girls with mature looks, so being a trainer is all she had going for herself. Meanwhile, Rosa was a new trainer on her journey. In their first encounter, Hilda couldn't help but secretly admire (and envy) her looks. As for Rosa, it was her wish to defeat the Hero of Unova but seeing Hilda made her realize the opportunity she had.
She challenged Hilda and manipulated her to accept a bet: if Hilda lost, then she would give up being a trainer and turn into Rosa's servant. Hilda was arrogant and thought it was impossible for her to lose because of title and experience. Rosa wasn't impressed and already knew she wanted her cocky senpai where she belonged: beneath Rosa's soles.
Before the battle started, Hilda was confident. However, deep in her heart she felt something seeing Rosa battle. Not just her toned body, but her attitude as a trainer was different. It was something Hilda fundamentally didn't have and that made her jealous too. She started to lose one pokémon after another, all while her admiration for Rosa's superior looks and skills left her more and more awestruck Before she knew it, Hilda lost the battle.
