From a writer's point of view, Team Rocket is the only reason to watch this slop. They are the only characters with any actual personality. The OG show (Kanto + Johto) were the best to watch because even Ash had a fun personality. The show is best when it's a comedy, not a boring shounen shitfest.

I agree it was very monotonous from AG - XY but in my opinion all the best and creative episodes in Sun and Moon (and Journeys) were Team Rocket episodes. They have much more substance and personality than Ash, I can't comprehend how anyone actually is simping over Ash ships.
