Gen 5 didn't remove anything. Gen 6 didn't remove anything, but if you want to draw the line at whether or not there's a direct link from the previous gen then inevitably Gen 6 will be in the same spot as Gen 3-- but Gen 3 still has the luxury of having every single non-mythical species available without ever having relied on a temporary service.
All of that just to shift the blame on any generation but 7.
SM removed the dex. USUM affirmed it even though that would have been good content to bring back for a "third version." LGPE removed the ability to transfer any species from a previous game. SWSH normalized it.
Gen 7 started dexit, I'm tired of pretending it didn't.
