Let's actually analyze BW and XY to see which game offers you actual freedom.
We'll use the first town as an example, but we'll also extend it to just outside each of the towns too, since this is often times a place for cutscenes to take place
BW -
>2 steps away from the first town there is a 20 second talk to Bianca and Cheren talking about how many pokemon you've caught on the route
>Professor juniper immediately calls on the TRANSever just to say hi despite only just seeing you moments ago and already sets up your first railroading by telling you to meet her outside the pokecenter which is LITERALLY 5 steps away from where you are standing, 25 second long phonecall btw
>Then cheren and bianca say they're going on ahead, another 10 seconds of watching them walk off screen
>Professor Juniper stops you seconds later to go into the Pokecenter, cutscene lasts for 2 (TWO) minutes 35 seconds
>Walking out of the pokecenter triggers another cutscene with two NPC's saying there's something going on literally 3 steps away, 5 seconds
>Walking 3 steps to the left triggers another cutscene with Ghetsis giving the first of his many monologues which he gives in every single town, goes on for 1 minute 48 seconds
>Immediately after that N stops you and talks his garbage for 50 seconds before battling you
>After the battle N says some shit then fucks off, then cheren says some shit for 35 seconds
>Bonus round, IMMEDIATELY after leaving the town your mum phones you and the call lasts for over 2 minutes
X&Y-
>Entering the Pokecentre has Tierno run in after you and tells you about healing your pokemon and buying shit from the pokemart all in 35 seconds, a fraction of the time it took juniper to tell you the same thing. You can unironically skip this too by not going into this Pokecenter until after you've beat the gym leader.
>20 seconds to receive the exp share when leaving to the next route AFTER beating the gym leader
