Plus, the opponent and the player have the same chance to crit if they keep attacking, so over the course of a series of battles the best players always rise to the top of the standings.
There's way worse things than crits in "competitive" pokemon. It's kind of funny to me how unintelligent people are, noticing that critical hits are unfair in some way, but they just casually accept the luck-of-the-draw based system that is the match up of your team vs. the opponent's team.
