He didn't want to move from Kanto and is mad at his family for moving just because his grandma wanted to live in Alola before she died. He hears stories from his grandma about a boy and his Pikachu coming to save the day.
Ash and Pikachu are like the Fairy Godmothers of the Pokemon universe, travelling around and helping kids achieve their dreams.
USUM protag nearly falls off the bridge until he's saved by a Pikachu. From then on Ash helps the USUM protag get past his anger and homesickness.
The final scene of the fic would be the USUM protags grandmother revealed to be Misty who cries in joy seeing her grandson on a journey with Ash and Pikachu.
