The blunt force of First Impression always threatens a revenge kill/pick off sweepers & despite Bug's dogshit coverage it just can clock certain opponents to the point where a resisted First Impression does more than a base damage Aqua Jet. Speaking of, Aqua Jet is also an uncommon option for a 1-2 punch if they swap in something with the thought that First Impression's priority turn is over.
With those in mind calling swaps can be to your benefit in either Knock Off/Close Combat or Spikes. No one likes losing their item ever & CC rips through certain Bug/Water resist(s), whereas Spikes is easily spammable if they swap to a wall getting 2 layers up especially if you can get rid of their hazard control prior to bringing Pod in.
The only reason this shit works at all is due to Heavy Duty Boots, with its massive bulk Pod can tank nearly any hit to gain momentum through EE but hazards cuck it so hard Boots is the only item option. Which also helps because if you go for Spikes it's on them for whether or not they go up.
Wimpod on the other hand in LC is very fast & can be a pretty good lead. Scald into Aqua Jet are decent enough STABs with a Burn chance & then Taunt+Spikes can fuck over most slower leads.
TLDR; It won't hardcarry but godamn is it fun to use & I hate that they got cut this gen.
