I like Liko and Roy but I really wonder why they didn't just use the player characters. They could have even gotten away with using the SWSH player characters, since JN practically skipped the entire region of Galar to make room for the flop OC Ash.
It's the only reason Ash's anime was able to stay on life support for so long. They relied 100% on the popularity of Brock, May, Dawn, Cilan&Iris, Serena, Lily/Gladion, and Leon/Hop. It was just barely enough to keep the Ashime alive for all those years despite Ash being so bland and uninteresting.
It's incredible to me that Horizons is doing even better than the Ashime despite not having a player character involved, but I really wish it did have one still. Even if it's the generic SV character instead of Gloria
