X&Y provided a fantastic foundation for future games, and I'm really sad that they've been left in the dirt with a reputation of mediocrity. They were rough around the edges as 3DS games, no doubt. But they brought so much to Pokemon's gameplay in great ways and small that I still managed to enjoy them a-lot. My favorite games in the series since Gen 2.
> They completely reinvented player communication, and I spent plenty of hours just getting into online Battles since the system was so efficient.
> Complimenting that was the changes made to EVs, which were now visible and tangible so that even casuals could understand them for once.
> VS Recorder has way more space than it did on the DS, and lets you revisit past opponents in 'Mock-Battles' to try and improve.
> The Friend Safari was a great way to build up a team or a collection, with HA 'mons being more readily available, and having higher shiny rates.
> Massive Regional Dex covering 'mons from every era, and even distributions so that you'd see a little bit of everything.
> Pokemon could interact with you, and fight harder for you with the Amie and Affection system
> Customization and trainer profiles made the adventure that much more personalized, and it was fun to see what everyone else had come up with.
> They added more Triple and Rotation Battles to the game, one last time before SM would throw them away.
> Battle Maison was the best iteration of the Tower with different BGMs, breaks, and earning more BP at higher levels.
> Expanded Berry system after BW removed it from the games altogether
If it weren't for Masuda's bad habits, leaving Zygarde unfinished and dumbing the campaign down because of 'muh smartphones', this could've been the GOAT...
