DP are the only games I can think of where you are putting yourself at a disadvantage by not playing the third version. The Pokedex is horrendous (only 2 fire types in the entire dex, Pokemon with new evolutions not available during the main game), the UI is ugly, a slow region is already slower, presentation is poor (with Platinum improving a bunch of environments and towns, added gym leader animations, improved fanfare during fights, better battle backgrounds, better sprites). It's just a slog and I do not like them, which is ironic since I loved Diamond as a kid and Platinum is my favorite.
