After watching the anime for a long while I started getting tired of Ash and his friends and wanted something or someone new to take his place. Then I saw the ads; Pokemon The First Movie.
>oh... fugBegged my parents to take me, my dad begrudgingly took my brother and I. Seeing the new Johto mons in Pikachus vacation and Donphan in the movie blew my fucking mind; "there are gonna be MORE pokemon??". It was at the end of the movie looking back that I realized something was fucked with me. When Ash turned to stone I thought that was it and then we'd get a new main character and I was happy. But then they all cried and he came back, rendering the whole movie moot. Still, those new pokemon I saw kept my mind buzzing. By the time they announced a new pokemon game was coming I had already played the shit out of red version and Stadium.
I could go on forever about how waiting for GS was lile christmas times 1000 but suffice to say, after GS, pokemon suddenly became "uncool" and it sucked so much. Granted with that happening and being a trade savvy- now 8/9 year old I got a base set charizard to round out my 150 card collection for a fruit-roll up. The biggest issue was that Pokemon was still huge for me; regardless of what my classmates thought. I did face ridicule and would have to enjoy it at home in secret, especially going into later grades and eventually middle school.
Fastforward to the end of HighSchool/collrge and Pokemon was now cool(sort of) again. Several years later; now-ish and Pokemon Go starts making it even cooler again. I bided my time past the summer of Go until they added raids and I was the most popular person organizing raids and gym takeovers. Met some cool people and some new friends.
To summerize, pokemon is nothing short of amazing. I've played and beaten every mainseries game thus far and am enjoying PLA. There have been ups and downs, mostly ups with a hard down in the middle.
It's been over 20 years, shit.
