Fuck that's rough. It's like they went for a combination of gen 1 and 2, the linework in gen 2 is nothing like that and gen 1 doesn't have that level of detail.

I respect what Gen 1 did and I love a lot of the culture and media around it like the anime, TCG, merchandise, Stadium, etc, but the franchise has had constant and massive changes that make all games past Gen 1 better to play, and in a thread that's purpose is ranking the games and not the impacts each have made then the first ones will naturally go lower the on the scale by virtue of being the first in a 25 year old franchise

Literally same.
Gen 2 are the games I play most often, but I generally don't have time for video games in general anymore. But a familiar romp through Johto makes me feel better every once in a while.
