And yes, it was some Alain but only fashbacks from Sycamore so he didn't tell anybody about him.The fact that Sycamore didn't tell anyone about him yet makes me think that Alan's entry into the main anime will be via a meeting with Sycamore first (maybe even a battle). Ash can then learn of what happens to Sycamore and then Sycamore can tell the whole story to Ash+company and it'll feel natural.
I think that's better than Sycamore going "by the way, I had an assistant too yada yada" in this episode. Sycamore thinking of Alan twice was enough.
