I’m an unabashed genwunner. RBY were great in their time, I’m replaying Red right now and loving it. Yes there’s odd bits that make no sense, yes there’s dumb glitches in battle, and yes it’s literally my mom’s cat/dog/whatever. But it was made by a bug collecting fanatic and really has a sense of adventure in a simplistic way. Or maybe that’s just my nostalgia-goggles. Either way I like it, and it was good enough to launch a huge worldwide multibillion franchise. I fucking love the first 2 gens.
Fun fact: Pokemon was originally written to be a 2 parter - just RBY and GSC. That’s why they’re pretty uniform to each other. The rest of the franchise is a bit disjointed at times, still fun in its own right; but the first games stand on their own as the best moments in Pokemon. At least to me.
