When people say that gen 7 is hard, they're talking about certain totem mons and ultra necrozma, SM is harder than XY for sure but that's only because it doesn't hand you mons that can carry you through the game, just emulate some difficulty hacks if 2/3 moves on a pokemon hurts you that bad.
