Suddenly the main girl's feelings were a talking point in the show. I remember the start of the hype threads where the concept of the main girl actually being romantically interested in Ash (this is coming off of BW) was so alien that the majority of discussion was over how it'd be bait, or a surface level gag that's never expanded upon. This or that. People genuinely couldn't believe it was happening.
Imagine shipping Ash and Misty your entire life. Imagine picking apart scene after scene, gag after gag, all in an effort to reinforce that ship. then imagine after all those years you're not getting back the show goes "okay and now we're doing romance" Completely invalidating everything you built your ship on down to the foundations. I'm not a shipper, but I'd have been mad too. Amour in a way embodies the XY problem (2/?)
