Sadly, Prima got shat on for being herself, Cinderace got shat on for being too on-the-nose little boy/manchild bait meaning when it came to Gen 9, they said "Fuck it, we're making the waifumon the shill starter" and ended up basing the lot off Yatterman characters to further cement the reference. They've accepted girls and women as potential sales, thus are actively courting them. That they decided it's worth pitching at males while doing so is just a bonus - they could have pivoted to making nothing but fujobit for the rest the series' lifespan and get just as good a reception (but they'd miss out on all the straight furfag sales which is why they made Meowscarada as starter for Gen 9. They didn't attach to cinderace the way they attached to both Delphox and Primarina).
