Recent Pokemon games have been enamored with the idea of trying to make scumbags seem empathetic, normally most would see this as them trying to push for "nuance", but I often find that the people who try the hardest to muddy the waters and try to justify awful things in the name of grey in whatever piece of media they make or write, are often people who themselves are scummy and awful, and whom themselves would try to pretend to be right or justified in their stories.
