Smogon proved that trying to ban things usually just results in something else "banworthy" showing up that more often than not also gets banned. Repeat with the next thing everyone hates until the next game is released and the metashift commences to make any work the bans did completely irrelevant.
Part of that was because of power-creep; back in Gen 4 the fact that Garchomp was banned in OU was a gigantic anomaly, and then Gen 5 necesitated far more bans, didn't really work (OU was less balanced than Ubers in Gen 5), and even had something get banned from Ubers (i.e. Moody), and now Gen 6 is a complete clusterfuck (Evidence 1: Mega Rayquaza)
Here, the balance is such that there's nothing designed to be blatantly overpowered compared to everything else, the idea of "use your favorites" won't result in you getting completely destroyed with 80%+ of the picks, and there's generally much better balance than there's been in Pokemon in ages.
Ban the bans, let people just throw their favorite waifus at each other and maybe agree to limit themselves before hand if they want to. Competitiveness doesn't really belong here.
