They should make a rare item called beacons. If you take a gym and are unfortunate enough to be on Instinct what you do is set a beacon on the gym while you level it up. Other players on your team can see the beacon pulsating a distress signal from afar. They would be able to see like double or triple their normal distance if there's a flashing beacon of their team active. Then they can beeline toward the gym if they so desire and help out. I mean it's ridiculous I can leave an 1800 CP Snorlax at a level 3 gym and it's gonna be taken in 10-15 minutes because no one is ever coming to drop a mon.
