>>49594185I'm 30 so I grew up when Pokemania had just exploded everywhere. It was hard to avoid, and I was already into video games at a young age, so I got into Pokemon, too.
I was a nerdy kid at school and got bullied a lot. But I knew that Pokemon would still be there for me, even when the world was cruel and unkind. Playing GS and going from Johto to Kanto was one of the most magical experiences of my childhood.
But I also think a big reason was because my mom got into it with me (or at least, pretended to just to appease me.) Her favorites were Bulbasaur and Psyduck. She had breast cancer, and died years later; I let her have my Bulbasaur and Psyduck plushies before she passed. I think that's one of the biggest reasons I connect with the series so much.
