Kurt, Oak, and Agatha were friends in their childhood and went on their pokemon adventures together. However as they got older Oak became solely interested in research while Agatha continue battling; Kurt acted as a link between the two since he research on various apricorns was relevant to both their interests, but when he moved to Johto the group fell apart.
