I emulated a few of the follow ups in Japanese (not the originals because I didn't mess up my first experience with a new region by not knowing what was happening) but still always bought the games once it was available for me to do so.
They've gotten at least 2 purchases per game from me until last year.
I want to support people who do good work and if a game isn't good then why would I be playing it at all? I'm not going to waste my time pirating something I don't expect to want to buy because the point of doing so is that I want to play it.
I don't even use it for demoing because sometimes you make mistakes. I generally look a lot of stuff up about anything I'm going to buy anyway, but I am perfectly okay with buying a game it turns out I don't want to play. Like I keep saying about Game Freak - sometimes you have to eat your mistakes.
Sometimes you think you've done right but you didn't and need to accept the fact and just try to do better moving forward.
