the unfortunate reality, though, is the models all look like fat listless retards relative to sprites, almost entirely because pokemon designs just don't translate all that well to 3D (and you can't really fudge model proportions in service of cool poses or whatever). the other unfortunate reality is that we're stuck with these terrible fat models forever because most people (probably including spritefriends like myself) prefer animated, mediocre-looking pokemon to more static, dynamic-looking pokemon -- can't stop progress and all
