Well, XY hype season comes around, and people have high hopes for XY coming from BW and BW2. XY ends up disappointing, and while /vp/ is upset, it's disappointment is mitigated by XY's excellent online and features like the Friend Safari, and pieces of the game that lead to rampant speculation. The disappointment of XY is largely viewed as an aberration, and most are still hopeful for future games.
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire get announced, and hype season returns in full force. Hoenn remakes, at last! Unfortunately, ORAS ends up even more disappointing and divisive, as it doesn't include many of Emerald's features, makes some bizarre changes, and infact removes content from the original games, like New Mauville and the Game Corner. The most divisive part of it is the replacement of the Battle Frontier with the Battle Resort, a clone of the Battle Tower-like facility from XY; but it teases the Battle Frontier anyway, with a now infamous line: "The Battle Frontier project has started!" The damage this does to the board is immense, and even more so when Masuda later explains in an interview that he didn't include the Battle Frontier because he felt only few players used it and kids are always on their phones these days and don't have time for things like it.
