>>47991372I agree with you that Fairy is really weird because it seems like it isn't one defining thing that binds them together, but I don't know if you really are correct with your assessment.
>Flowers-already a defining feature of GrassThe fairies that use flowers/plants use them like tools for their "magic" powers, which is like what... only 2 Pokemon lines? 3 maybe? It's redundant at a minor level, but it's not the same as an actual Grass Pokemon. It's like saying Farfetch'd or Timburr should be Grass.
>The Moon-already a define feature of DarkIt isn't. There are Dark-types that are associated with night time which in turn involves the moon, but it's different from Fairies. I know it's stupid af, but Fairies seem to rely on the lunar energy which is something Dark types don't do. There's crossing over for sure, but a Houndoom using Moonblast doesn't really make a ton of sense.
>Cute shit-Nigga 70% of Pokemon are cute shitYa got me there. But if you're going to make a "fairy" it might as well be cute. I mean, that's the #1 thing people think of.
>Folklore-Nigga at least half of all Pokemon are some kind of Folklore. Yeah, and not all folklore are magical or fairy-like creatures. And it would be boring as hell to make Pokemon like Thundurus or Arcanine all Fairy type. And while Ghosts are definitely "spirits" they're not all "tricksters." I think Ghost is just meant to be undead shit and ethereal mons. Fairy seems to tap more into that feminine/magick angle with a bit of crossing over but not totally. I can't see Rotom or Dusknoir being a Fairy any more than I could see Flabebe or Grimmsnarl being Ghost. They definitely draw from different things, even if the line is a bit blurry.
I think the issue with Fairy is NONE of that. I think the issue is that they slapped it onto so many different old mons that it muddied the waters too much bc there was no rhyme to who gained the type. It's clear what they WANT it to be from all the newer mons Gen 6 forward.
