Gen 1 is literal trash, it has aged like milk and offers nothing for players today beyond slow limited unbalanced gameplay and archaic absurd glitches. If you want to be obsessed with nostalgia at least do it with gen 2 which is actually still pretty good and the remakes amazing. FRLG is mediocre in the sense that it is a massive upgrade from the original gen 1 garbage and actually makes it playable, but it doesn't do much more than that. It could have been so much better, but gen 1 babies have no right to complain about it.
