Resuming. Still didn't think of a good name for Archen so I just said fuck it.
There was a guard post that had been overtaken by Team Racket; my rival and I clear it out, though she gets defeated by the unnamed leader. Said leader had Gligar/Furret/Ursaring and wasn't any trouble.
After that we go through Acre Woods, a short forest with a puzzle involving travelling around and hitting switches to open paths.
The town after it, Charcoal Town -- "A gritty isolated locale" -- has two Gyms instead of just one, named Gym 1 and Gym 2. Gym 1 is small and features only one trainer, the Flying-type leader Karla, who uses Skarmory/Mantine/Aerodactyl. Beating her gives you the Acrobatbadge and the HM for Whirlpool. Karla is characterized as being introvert and drab.
Gym 2 is larger and has more trainers, who seem to all be radical xtreme sports players. (Though, said trainers have the best custom sprites in the game, even if I'm sure the male is just a reskin of the male snowboarder from GSC.) The leader, Elroy, uses Poison-types and has Weezing/Nidoking/Crobat. Beating him nets you the Pollutebadge and the TM for Toxic. Elroy is characterized as extrovert and obnoxious, a deliberate contrast to Karla.
