>>54112547Well gen6 has the switch to 3D and the start of big one-shot gimmicks that get dropped a generation later is definitely a factor. They tried to justify dropping Megas by making the process sound terrible for the pokemon in gen7. Then they realized they could just make and drop gimmicks and still sell games regardless so they did it two more times with Dynamax and Terastallizing, and nobody will be surprised when there's another new one and done gimmick in gen10.
Gen5 is in that weird place where it's the final generation in 2D and was considered by the devs to be a sort of finale in that era of Pokemon, what with the World tournament and crazy peta terror plot, but it's also the first region set outside Japan and most people on /vp/ were adults by the time BW came out so it rubs some people the wrong way and doesn't have the childhood memories associated to it like gen 4 and earlier do.
Ultimately I'd say gen5 is in a weird in-between place that people will argue vehemently forever on, but gen6 is very firmly nugen.
