Just in case, I started playing Pokémon in 2008 and played every game in the series in order, from RBY to USUM.
Sun/Moon and USUM are really good games with decent difficulty, great story, new interesting setting and approach to the formula. While Sun/Moon doesn't really have much to do in post-game, I admit it, USUM fixes that problem (I still have things to do and I haven't even been to Battle Tree).
I am not blind though, Gen 7 games have a lot of problems like the downgraded online features which were one of the best things of Gen 6 games. I mean, XY were really dissapointing, in my opinion, especially after the greatness that were Gen 5 games, but Sun/Moon despite its problems managed to leave a great impression and are even able to compete with Gen 5. Although, Gen 5 would probably be better. But that is my opinion.
So think again. Didn't you enjoy Sun/Moon on the first playthrough? I think you did, even though you probably won't admit it out loud. You are simply influenced too much by the oh so vocal minority that is /vp/ and its trying-to-be-cool underages.
Have your own opinion for a change. Don't listen to anyone before playing a new game. This way, I am sure, you will find great joy in playing the upcoming Let's Go and Gen 8 titles, no matter how much /vp/ hisses at them.
