Johto arc featuring Gold, starter Cyndaquil. Similarities to the Raikou special, but rearranged significantly, Krys as either late-season co-protagonist or rival, Suicune arc as big finale before League. Mostly hits some similar beats to the original anime, with Gold a bit more rounded than Ash. Small post-League arc involving the trip to Kanto and meeting some new and old faces.
Hoenn arc featuring Brendan, starter Treeko. May as Birch's kid, follows the games' plot closer, Brendan starts off overconfident and thinks he's hot shit and grows humility as the series progresses. May for Contests like the anime, Emerald's Kyogre/Groundon/Rayquaza event serves as the finale before the league with a Battle Frontier challenge to show Brendan's growth, Sevii Islands mini-arc where he meets (an older) Ash. Maybe a movie about Mewtwo vs. Deoxys.
Sinnoh arc featuring Dawn, starter Piplup. Blend of anime Dawn's friendliness with just a bit of Platina's hotbloodedness, tries to keep Barry's hyperactivity in check. Starts at the same time as the Lake of Rage incident in Johto like in the games, big focus is placed on Pokemon history and myth and the sorting out the mysteries of the past, with mild Indiana Jones vibe (Ranger protagonists, Riley, Cynthia, etc. all taking turns in the "Indy" role), all tying back to Galactic and Cyrus, the Plates taking on a more significant role. Distortion World before the League, Fight Area and Battle Frontier post-league leading up to the discovery of the Azure Flute, with a mini-arc trip to the Sinjoh Ruins and meeting Gold, Krys, and newbie trainer Lyra (notched-ear Pichu), with the final test being in the Hall of Origin with Arceus.
