Trading to complete the Pokedex became obsolete in Gen 4 as soon as online was introduced (possibly slightly beyond that while the playerbase adjusted). It used to be a neat way to facilitate a social aspect of the game, but now it's just something you get out of the way in a few hours at most, most of it waiting for someone to see your version exclusive being put up.
Instead of maybe venturing beyond what your brain could handle and considering that, if they really wanted to keep double versions, they should design new systems to facilitate social interactions for the games, you defend an outdated way to distinguish the two versions with "this is how it's always been". If you think two versions is key to the series' identity, then they should put some effort into it. As is, it deserves to be called as blatant money grubbing.
