I can't call myself a Genwunner because I like a lot of designs from 2-4 and even a few from the later gens but it is true that the design philosophy of Pokemon HAS changed drastically and that is probably the main cause of why fans of this franchise are so split. I will never fault an individual for liking the gen they first started with but for many long term fans the changes over the years are pretty noticeable. 5 isn't the worst though. Way better than 7 and 8. I think the problem with 5 for me is that it just tries too hard to be Gen 1 and doesn't really carve out an identity of its own. That is why we ended up with stuff like Mickey Mouse with a 2x4. 5 did great with bugs though. Almost all are awesome and it is the second best gen for bugs behind 1 in my opinion.
