It looks dumb. Why does it look dumb? Because the shape and proportion of its head doesn't work with the shape and proportion of its body, and instead of evoking a feeling of a cool monster it makes people think of a man wearing a stupid fucking costume. The remedy to this is to add more design elements that are less human and more animal. The original design also looks like it's off-balance because its fucking banana head is too big for its body and makes it look like it's going to fall forward. By making the pokemon squatter this also solves that problem, which makes it look more natural, like this pokemon could naturally exist in a fictional world.
why does all of that matter? because our monkey brains register things certain ways because over millions of years shit happened, and now everyone with a functioning mind will register this thing, this fucking abomination, as a fugly bitch.
